ITO Kinu (100% Silk Noil Yarn)

-
ITO Kinu is spun from 100% Silk Noil, or bourette, which is the silk fibres left over from spinning mulberry filament silk. So, unlike Mulberry, it's matte and textured instread of shiny and slippery.
Sometimes called "raw silk", It's slubby and soft, but very durable and so wearable! Fabrics have a cotton-like drape, but with a more modern feel.
100% silk, no fuss. The silk is made from shorter fibres (noil), which gives it that softly textured surface, and stops it feeling too precious or glossy. All the strength and drape of silk, but with a much more relaxed, everyday character.
It’s super light for the yardage - 425m per 50g, so you can create fabric that feels substantial without being heavy. Think smooth, breathable and softly structured, with a gentle drape, rather than anything too fluid or clingy.
We LOVE it held together with Ito Sensai. It's spectacular.Kinu is sourced from small Japanese mills with very consistent spinning standards, and like the rest of the ITO range, it’s all about balance - nothing overworked, nothing flashy, just very, very well executed luxury.
The colour palette is classic ITO — timeless, and designed to mix beautifully across the range.
Here are some pattern ideas for this stunning yarn. And here's a page of swatches showing some examples of Kinu and Shimo together. -
