- Yes, we've added another blown (chainette) yarn to our shelves!
A bit like Soft by Isager or Snefnug by CaMaRose, Le Coton & Alpaca is that rare unicorn: soft, airy, and light, but with a beautiful weight and drape.
We find Le Coton & Alpaca to be just that little bit more dense and structured than the others though, thanks to the higher cotton contect (66% GOTS-certified cotton and 34% superfine alpaca, vs 44% pima cotton in Soft by Isager).
The cotton gives it structure and definition, while the alpaca brings that soft halo and warmth, without tipping it into heavy.
This yarn is lovely and soft, and just a bit floaty. It has a slightly slubby, gently marled texture, so the colours have real depth and interest rather than looking flat or over-processed.
Knit up fabric hangs beautifully, with a relaxed, fluid feel. Perfect for garments you actually want to wear!
It’s light in the hand, smooth on the needles, and properly satisfying to knit. It doesn’t have the elasticity of wool, but isn't as inelastic as straight cotton. You get movement instead of bounce.
It's so versatile too. Go up a needle size and it becomes softer and drapier. Knit it tighter and you’ll get a bit more structure.Â
A brilliant yarn for transitional pieces: lightweight sweaters, tees, cardigans you can throw on year-round, and next-to-skin knits that don’t make you overheat. Especially good if you run hot, a wool alternative, or just want something a bit more relaxed and effortless.
The vibe is easy, slightly undone, and quietly chic. Very Biches & Bûches!
Designed in France. Spun and dyed in Italy.

She was looking for something rustic, that reminded her of a trip to Norway in 1995, discovering the pure wool from their Norwegian sheep, as well as her Scandinavian roots, a yarn that would make a sturdy sweater, to be worn through the years. and that rustic yarn would have to be blended with a soft feeling, that felt good knitting with, and of course, that felt good wearing.

Their all-natural wool comes from a family-owned fibre mill in Scotland.
Astrid designs garments of wool with a deep love for sweaters and cozy shawls. Biches and Buches describes their yarn as "A beautiful quality, presented in a way that feels like home."
